Oxford Budget Vote Is Tuesday

Oxford residents on Tuesday (May 14) will vote on whether to approve a $42.4 million budget for 2013 – 2014 that would increase taxes 2.7 percent.

The referendum will take place from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Quaker Farms School, 30 Great Oak Road.

The budget proposals would set the town’s tax rate at 24.75 mills. The current mill rate is 24.1.

That means if voters approve the budget at Thursday’s referendum, a person who owns a house assessed at $230,000 would see their property taxes go from $5,543 to $5,692.50, an increase of $149.50.

Thursday will be Oxford’s first budget referendum of the year.

Residents vote separately on the school and town budgets.

Last year a little more than 17 percent of voters turned out to approve the first spending plan proposed to residents.
