Oxford Daisy Scout Meets With State Sen. Kane

Sen. Rob Kane (left) on Feb. 27 welcomed Oxford residents Kristi Novin (right) and her daughter Ainsley (middle) to the Legislative Office Building in Hartford.

The Novins were participating in the annual Girl Scout Day at the Capitol” ceremonies. Ainsley is currently a Daisy Scout.

Daisy Girl Scouts is a program designed for girls in Kindergarten-1st grade, or ages 5 – 7 years old.

According to the Girl Scout website, the Girl Scout program can change the way girls see the world and their place in it. Girls learn the importance of personal responsibility, the value of goal-setting, the spirit of teamwork, and the thrill of accomplishment.

The Girl Scout program is based on the Girl Scout Promise and Law and four fundamental goals that encourage girls to:

  • Relate to others with increasing understanding, skill, and respect.
  • Develop a meaningful set of values to guide their actions and to provide for sound decision-making.
  • Contribute to the improvement of society.
