For many this is the most wonderful time of the year, and that is especially true at Oxford High School (OHS) where the spirit of community and giving are alive and well.
During the weekend of December 7 – 9, the OHS Booster Club will be sponsoring various holiday events, including a Festival of Trees auction, a Valley’s Got Talent contest, lunch with Santa and a special choir performance by Harmony on the Sound.
The Festival of Trees auction will be held throughout the weekend with donations benefiting numerous charities. Beautifully decorated holiday trees and gifts are being donated by various high school and local groups.
All of them are available to bid on with the money raised going to a range of charities, including help for victims of Storm Sandy, Toys for Tots and the American Cancer Society. There will be at least 25 trees available.
On Friday, December 7th, a “Valley’s Got Talent” contest will be held in the high school’s auditorium at 7:00 p.m. with talented teens from area high schools participating. Audiences can cheer for their favorite acts with the winners receiving prizes at the end of the competition. Admission is $8.00 for adults and $5.00 for students and seniors. In addition to Oxford, the other participating high schools are Ansonia, Derby, and Seymour.
On Saturday, December 8th families and friends are invited to enjoy a new holiday tradition – lunch with Santa! Hot dogs, chips, beverage and dessert are included in the price of $5.00 per person or $20.00 for a family. All are welcome to have their photo taken with Santa for a nominal fee. Lunch will be served from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the OHS cafeteria.
On Sunday, December 9th from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. the Harmony on the Sound choir will perform a special concert in the OHS auditorium. Admission is $10.00 for adults and $8.00 for students and seniors. The drawing for winners of the trees will be held at the end of the concert, but winners do not need to be present.
The events are open to all and are a great way to kick of the holiday season while providing a wonderful opportunity to give to various charities through the Festival of Trees.
