Oxford High School Closed Tuesday

The snow is off the roof at Oxford High School, but the school still won’t open Tuesday, according to a letter posted on the school district’s website.

Cracks on walls inside the schools were discovered late Thursday. The high school hasn’t been open since.

Workers spent all weekend — and Monday — clearing snow off the roof. A structural engineer was brought in by the district to inspect Oxford High School as well.

What the structural engineer told school officials is not mentioned in a letter posted Monday night on the school district’s website.

School officials said Monday closing the school again will give engineers time to inspect now that the snow is gone.

The letter from new Superintendent Edward Malvey is posted below. Article continues after the document.

NO SCHOOL TUESDAY

The letter states that the engineers have decided it is necessary to have the original building contractor participate in this process.”

The high school is five years old.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work on this important safety issue,” the letter concludes.
