The Oxford High School at 61 Quaker Farms Road lost water at about 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, according to Fire Chief Scott Pelletier.

The reason was unclear, as of 12:15 p.m. It seemed to be out at other locations too.

I know we don’t have water here Board of Education offices,” said interim School Superintendent James Connelly, referring to the school offices on Great Hill Road Oxford High School.

The water outage was unexplainable.

We’re not sure why,” Pelletier said. We’re still looking into it with the water company.”

The high school was being used as a place for people to take hot showers and charge up devices. It was not open when the water went out, and will not be opened Wednesday unless the problem gets fixed, Pelletier said.

The fire department is determining whether to open up another location for residents.

Right now, residents can still get water from hoses at each of the town’s fire departments, Pelletier said. Those are Oxford Center fire house, Route 67 next to Town Hall, Riverside fire house, 151 Coppermine Road, and Quaker Farms fire house, 403 Quaker Farms Road.

Oxford is served by Aquarion Water Company, Pelletier said.
