Oxford Historical Society Spring Tea

The Oxford Historical Society Annual Spring Tea will be held on May 1 at 1 p.m. in the Oxford United Church of Christ, Congregational fellowship hall. This year’s program is ​“A Musical Stroll Down Memory Lane, with Meg Capen and Friends.

The program will cover songs and medlies from Stephen Foster through World War II. Such favorites as Home, Sweet Home, Red River Valley, In the Good Old Summer Time, and Give my Regards to Broadway, among others.

In addition to the musical program, the tea will feature a display of Historical Society quilts, both old and new, as well as homemade fancy refreshments.

Mezzo Soprano Margaret Capen will be the featured artist. She began her music training upon moving to New York at age nine. 

She studied piano, flute and voice, and then decided to continue her vocal studies while working toward a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Therapy at the State University of New York at New Paltz. 

She has studied with international opera singer Edwina Eustis Dickhas performed witn King Bosworth over the last thirteen years.

Internationally, Ms. Capen has performed in concerts in Italy and in Switzerland. 

While in Italy, she studied with Maestro Ubaldo Fabri, a renowned vocal teacher of Bel Canto singing.

Also appearing will be Bob Kupstis. 

He began singing in church choirs as a youngster, and later sang with the Navy Rock N’ Roll Band. 

He has been active in musical theater, performing at the Thomaston Opera House, and the Civic Theater of Waterbury, where he appeared as King Arthur in Camelot

Marti Peterson will be the pianist. She has been playing since she was a young child and began her role as accompanist while in the eigth grade, through high school and college. 

A music therapist, she has been a frequent accompanist for Meg Capon.
