April is spring cleaning month in Oxford.
Throughout the month, Oxford is asking residents to volunteer to spruce up the town — either on their own, or with a group.

Students, town workers, residents and people who work in Oxford are all expected to get involved. The town is providing pledge sheets, where residents can indicate how much they plan to clean up.
The cleaning can happen anytime during the month. Residents who fill out the pledge form and return it to the town by May 2 are entered into a drawing for prizes.
The Oxford Land Trust has been hosting the clean-up month for the past 20 years, but for the first time this year the town has taken charge.
“This year, the Oxford Inland Wetlands Commission is taking the lead with it, because they had some financing to pay for flyers, but we at the Land Trust are definitely assisting to get out there and help,” said Peter Petrochko, president of the land trust.
The land trust will be cleaning its properties.
“We will be cleaning up litter, bottles, cans, trash, tires. You’d be amazed at the stuff you find on the roadside here,” Petrochko said.
“It’s trying to get people to make a commitment, and clean up in their own neighborhood. If they want to to cleanup somewhere else there are opportunities too,” he said.
“We both have the same aims, preserving property,” said Thomas Adamski, a member of the Conservation Commission Inland Wetlands Agency. “We want get as many people involved as possible.”
The Public Works Department to remain open until 5 p.m. on the last two Saturdays of April, as part of the effort.
First Selectman Mary Ann Drayton-Rogers said she’d like to involve the Town Hall staff in the clean-up, especially on the last two Saturdays of April, and hopes to direct the cleanup to Town Hall, the Center Fire House and ambulance building and dog pound area.
