Oxford Sees Slight Increase In Grand List

Oxford’s grand list ticked up slightly in the past year.

In a press release issued last week, First Selectman George R. Temple said the town’s grand list — an inventory of all taxable property in town — increased 0.384 percent, or about $5.4 million, year over year.

Temple said the increase is encouraging and shows the town is still growing.

We are seeing an increase in our grand list while many other towns are seeing a decrease in their grand lists,” Temple said in the press release.

If the town’s mill rate were to stay the same after this year’s budget process, the press release said the town would have $129,866 in additional revenue.

Temple pledged repeatedly last year to do everything he could to deliver a tax reduction to residents in next year’s budget. The mill rate currently stands at 24.1.

Selectmen will begin their discussion of the 2013 – 2014 budget next week. From there, it goes to the Board of Finance, and then ultimately to voters to approve or reject at referendum.

Last year, voters approved a $13,407,217 town operations budget and a school budget of $26,548,247.
