A fifth-grade student at Oxford Center School took the top prize for his grade in New Haven County’s annual Fire Prevention Poster Contest.
The student, Sean Hussey, was congratulated by town officials during a Board of Selectmen’s meeting Wednesday night.
First Selectman George Temple called Hussey’s achievement “fantastic.”
“It was an amazing poster, he did a heck of a job,” Temple said.
Temple then presented Hussey with a certificate of recognition as audience members applauded his work.
“I think it’s too much now,” a humble Hussey said as Temple congratulated him and Pam Aldrich, an art teacher at Oxford Center School and Oxford High School.
“Quit being modest,” Temple shot back. “You’ll never make it in politics!”
