Tractor Trailer Overturns On Route 8, Snarls Traffic

A tractor trailer carrying a load of paper bags overturned near exit 22 of Route 8 northbound in Seymour this morning, snarling traffic for several hours. No major injuries were reported.

State police said the accident at 9:32 a.m. resulted in some fuel from the truck spilling. The state Department of Environmental Protection had to be called in to deal with the spill. A minor injury with no need for an ambulance was reported.

As of 12 p.m., the northbound section of Route 8 was closed, with traffic being diverted off and back onto Route 8, state police said. The left lane of the southbound Route 8 in that area was also closed, because of debris in the road.

The road opened at 4 p.m., just in time for the evening rush hour. The accident is under investigation.
