Jason Perillo Tuesday won a third term as state representative for the 113th district.
Perillo, a Republican, received 5,130 votes, while his Democratic opponent, Elaine Matto received 2,473, according to the Shelton city clerk’s office.
The district represents half of Shelton.
Perillo on Wednesday said his two main goals over the next two years will be job creation and fixing the state budget.
“The two go hand in hand,” Perillo said. “Until the state of Connecticut can restore some level of sanity in its spending, it will not be able to create an environment that is conducive to job creation.”
“And my focus will be on making proposal and driving legislation to begin to change that,” Perillo said. “It can’t happen in one year. It can’t happen in two years. But that needs to be our charge.”
Shelton voters also largely favored other Republican candidates, including Kevin Kelly, who was vying for the 21st District state senate seat.
Kelly beat Democratic opponent, James Miron. The 21st district covers Shelton, and parts of Seymour, Stratford and Monroe.
In Shelton, Kelly received 9,203 votes, while Miron received 4,509, according to the Shelton city clerk’s office.
Shelton voters also favored Lawrence Miller, an incumbent running for re-election in the 122nd District for the state House of Representatives.
Miller, a Republican from Stratford, received 4,055 votes from Shelton residents, while his Democratic opponent, Cheryl Jansen, received 2,268, according to the Shelton city clerk’s office.
Miller also took the Stratford vote to seal his victory.
All results are considered unofficial until submitted to and approved by the Secretary of State’s office.
