A state official acknowledged the work of the police department for a recent case involving the death of a three-month old child.
State Rep. Jason Perillo, R‑Shelton, sent a letter to the city’s police commission thanking the officers and detectives who responded to the Sept. 10 death.
Alayziah Brown’s death is still under investigation. Her father, Rodney Lee Brown, was charged with risk of injury to a child.
“This letter is to thank your officers for their tremendous efforts on the evening of September 10, 2009 in relation to an unfortunate incident involving a baby, “ Perillo said in the three paragraph letter.
“Our paramedic staff that was on the scene shared with me how impressed they were with the medical care and effort rendered by the APD officers and I felt it necessary to share that with you,” Perillo wrote.
Perillo is also the director of Valley Emergency Medical Services (VEMS).
Ansonia Police Chief Kevin Hale said he appreciated the letter.
“What could be worse then that type of situation?” he said. “The officers acted like true professionals in a difficult situation. Some of the officers have children of their own and it hit home.”
“A lot of police departments and emergency departments don’t get recognized, so basically I wanted to say thank you,” Perillo said.
