Ansonia’s annual Festival of Bikes took place May 4.
The event was organized by the Ansonia Economic Development Commission and Ansonia Cultural Commission, with special thanks to the Ansonia Rod and Gun Club for their sponsorship of BMX stunt show that highlighted this year’s event.
Mayor David Cassetti was on hand to read a proclamation celebrating the festival, which honors Pierre Lallement, Ansonia resident and inventor of the modern bicycle.
The Mayor remarked that the event “celebrates a real milestone in Ansonia history” and expressed his thanks to Economic Commissioner Vinnie Scarlata and Cultural Commission Chairwoman Judy Nicolari for keeping the event going strong for its fourth year.
“This event would not be possible without the hard work of Ansonia’s volunteer board and commission members. Vinnie and Judy are to be commended for their work — they are a true credit to Ansonia,” Cassetti said.
The festival continued the tradition of welcoming bike riders completing their route from New Haven to Ansonia, following a route that Pierre himself followed over a century ago.
