PHOTOS: Hotchkiss Hose Raises Thousands For Cancer Research

How do you raise $500 for charity in five minutes? Have firefighter Michael Gloade work the crowd.

Gloade — smiling, cracking jokes, even rubbing his chin against a soon-to-be bald buddy’s head — acted as emcee Thursday in the upper room at Archie Moore’s on Elizabeth Street, where Hotchkiss Hose firefighters raised some $7,500 for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.

People pledged money to see firefighters have their heads shaved to the scalp.

The money will be used to support research to help kids with cancer.

At one point, Gloade got nearly everyone in the packed bar to donate money on the spot, raising $500 for the charity in a matter of minutes.
