Seymour firefighters extinguished a fire at a detached garage next to a house on Seymour’s Jefferson Street Wednesday afternoon.
There were no injuries.
Crews were dispatched to the scene about 2 p.m. on a report of a structure fire in the garage, which sits between 3 Jefferson St. and 1 Jefferson St.
Seymour Fire Department Assistant Chief Steve Childs said firefighters made quick work of the blaze.
“We stretched one line and the guys knocked it down very quickly,” Childs said.
The fire was declared under control about 2:15 p.m.
Childs said that it appeared the fire may have tarted outside the garage and then spread to the structure, but that Fire Marshal Paul Wetowitz would investigate a cause and origin of the blaze.
The Facebook page of the Seymour Fire Marshal’s Office reported Wednesday afternoon that “the cause of the fire was accidental due to remains from an outside fire place.”
Firefighters remained on the scene until about 3 p.m. removing items from the garage and making sure the fire was out.
Childs credited the quick response with keeping the flames from reaching either of the houses it sits between.
“It’s one of these things where if it had gone for any longer and you had a lot of radiant heat, it could have (spread),” he said.
About 25 to 30 firefighters from Citizens Engine Company and Great Hill Hose Company responded. Oxford firefighters responded as well.
EMS stood by on scene as the fire was put out.
