Police Announce Third Arrest In 2011 Ansonia Homicide

Spino

ANSONIA — A third man was arrested Wednesday in connection to the 2011 fatal shooting of Isaia Hernandez.

Police announced Thursday that Andrew Spino, 34, was charged with felony murder, first-degree robbery, and first-degree conspiracy to commit robbery.

He was scheduled to be arraigned in court today (Thursday, Sept. 8)

Spino was extradited from Hawaii, where he was in jail on other charges, police said.

Hernandez was killed on March 16, 2011 in the parking lot of the Xtra Mart on Wakelee Avenue.

He was sitting in his girlfriend’s car at the time. His family believed the murder was the result of a robbery, a fact later confirmed by police.

Hernandez was 25 years old and was an Ansonia resident. He had just dropped his then 2‑year-old son at a babysitter’s house prior to his murder.

Police previously arrested Elijah Stanford and Luis Marquez in connection to the shooting. They said Spino is the last suspect to be apprehended.
