Police: Ansonia Man Faces Charges After Running From Cops

An Ansonia man is facing five criminal charges after allegedly running from police who tried to stop him on Caroline Street in Derby Saturday.

Police said they came across Edward Rumley, 20, as he was fighting with another person on Caroline Street at about 10 p.m.

Police said Rumley took off when he saw police coming for him.

A police dog from Ansonia was called to help with the search.

Rumley was found hiding behind St. Mary’s Church on Elizabeth Street. Police said they found a small amount of crack cocaine on him.

Rumley sustained an arm injury — thought to have happened when he climbed something — during the chase.

Once in the ambulance to get checked out, he became combative with the medics and spit at them, police said.

Rumley was charged with assaulting emergency medical personnel, second-degree breach of peace, interfering with a police officer, possession of crack cocaine and possession of crack cocaine near a school or daycare.

He’s out on bond, pending an Aug. 31 court date in Derby.
