A 27-year-old Ansonia man was arrested Sunday for allegedly planning to rob a pizzeria in downtown Shelton.
Slawomir Kret was charged with first-degree attempted robbery, first-degree conspiracy to commit robbery and interfering with police.
According to a prepared statement from Shelton police, detectives came across a plan to rob the unnamed restaurant. Cops put the pizzeria under surveillance and said they watched as Kret and an unidentified man parked behind the business, allegedly waiting for it to close.
Detectives and the department’s canine officer approached the vehicle and ordered everyone out. Kret didn’t follow orders and “retreated” into the vehicle — a van — according to police. The police dog was let loose inside the van and Kret was subdued.
Police said they found masks, gloves, a hat and a “tool handle weapon” in the van.
The other person in the van was not arrested.
Kret was treated for dog bite wounds. He was scheduled to be arraigned in Superior Court in Derby Tuesday (Sept. 11).
Police said the investigation is ongoing.
Note: Shelton police sent out the correct mugshot of the suspect Tuesday afternoon.
