The woman who was assaulted in her Country Place home last week has been released from the hospital and police are hoping to talk with her to determine who her assailant was.
Police do not believe the incident was random, Sgt. Robert Kozlowski said Monday.
The 50-year-old woman, who has not been identified, was found in her home Thursday evening by an acquaintance, police said. Police believe she was beaten sometime after 3 p.m. and was unable to get to a phone to call for help.
The woman was taken to the hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries Thursday, but her condition was upgraded over the weekend and she was released.
Kozlowski said they do not believe the suspect broke into her home.
“We think it’s an isolated incident,” Kozlowski said. “It was not a random thing.”
Kozlowski said it does not appear that a knife or gun was used in the attack. The woman was found had multiple bruises on her.
“She went through a traumatic experience,” Kozlowski said. “Obviously our first priority was her health. Now the main part of our investigation is trying to interview her.”
The State Police Major Crime Squad helped Shelton police investigate the crime scene.
