Police: Desire For Day Off Triggered Bomb Threats

Seymour police arrested a Shelton man for allegedly making two false bomb threats at a company in the Seymour Industrial Park on Feb. 8 and Feb. 29.

Manuel Echevarria Jr., 26, of Howe Avenue, was charged Monday on two arrest warrants for two counts of falsely reporting an incident, and two counts of threatening.

Police said Echevarria was a temporary worker at a manufacturing company in the industrial park, but did not identify the company.

Echevarria appeared to have wanted time off, according to a press release issued by Lt. Paul Satkowski.

Police tracked down Echevarria using phone records, according to the statement.

On Feb. 8, the business received a phone call from a male reporting a bomb was in the building. The building was evacuated and employees were sent home for the day.

The Connecticut State Police Emergency Services Unit was called and responded to the scene with several canine teams trained to detect bombs.

They searched the building, but found no explosives.

Then on Feb. 29, another bomb threat was made to the company. The same procedure was followed, and no explosives were found.

The company lost about $15,000 to $20,000 as a result of lost time and costs associated with the bomb threats, Satkowski wrote.

Echevarria was arraigned at Superior Court in Derby on Monday.
