The utility vehicle was used to search for a missing person along the Housatonic River earlier this year.
Derby police are investigating a crash involving a fire department utility vehicle.
Two men were in an off-road, Polaris-type vehicle assigned to the Paugassett Hook and Ladder Company #4 when it crashed Monday afternoon on Derby Avenue near Mount Pleasant Street.
The crash happened about 3:30 p.m.
One of the two men in the vehicle suffered a serious hand injury and had to be taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital.
The other man was not injured.
Their names were not released. They’re both volunteer firefighters in the Valley.
Derby police released limited information on the incident Tuesday, saying they were still trying to piece together what happened.
The vehicle was not responding to a call for service at the time of the wreck.
There are conflicting accounts of whether the two men even had permission to be operating the vehicle at the time.
This post will be updated when more information becomes available.
