Police Investigate Report Of Shots Fired In Ansonia

Police had placed evidence markers on the sidewalk on the other side of the police vehicle after a report of shots fired.

ANSONIA — Police are investigating a shooting that happened on Fourth Street near North Main Street Monday (Oct. 25).

Lt. Patrick Lynch said police received several reports of shots fired at about 6:30 p.m.

Lynch said witnesses told police a man on the sidewalk started firing a gun, possibly at a moving vehicle. Lynch said that as of 8:30 p.m., there were no reports of injuries.

Police recovered shell casings at the scene. At least six shots were fired, Lynch said.

He noted that police had not discovered any physical damage from the bullets, meaning they hadn’t hit houses or businesses in the immediate vicinity of the shooting. No parked cars were hit.

Police did not have a concrete description of the suspect. Lynch said he might have been male, and was last seen heading west on Fourth Street (meaning away from North Main Street, also known as state Route 115).

Lynch said police were interviewing people in the neighborhood, along with checking to see if any surveillance video exists.

Anyone with information on the incident should call police at (203) 735‑1885.
