DERBY — Police are investigating a report of a man shot by a dart within Osbornedale State Park.

A Valley resident wrote a post on Facebook saying her elderly father was hit in the back by a dart while fishing at the park on Jan. 13. He was OK, but shook from the experience, according to the post.

The poster also included an image that she said was the projectile.

Two white males, one with long hair, looked to be in their early 20’s, drove by on orange electric scooters, shot him, and took off towards Derby High School,” according to the post.

The Valley Indy reached out to the poster through Facebook Messenger on Jan. 16 but the person declined comment.

Derby Police Department Deputy Chief Brian Grogin said a person came to city police to file a complaint. The person was referred to the state’s EnCon Police Department, the law enforcement division of the state’s Department of Energy and Environment Protection (DEEP).

The park falls under EnCon’s jurisdiction because it is state land.

DEEP spokesman Paul Copleman said police are investigating the report but provided no additional info.
