Police: Monroe Woman Was Getaway Driver In Shelton Robbery

A Monroe woman was charged by Shelton police Thursday for her alleged involvement in an October robbery of a Bridgeport Avenue gas station.

Patricia Mercaldi, 29, was charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery in connection to the gun-point stick-up of the Shell station at 99 Bridgeport Ave.

Police believe Mercaldi acted as the getaway driver for Kashawn Brown, who was charged in the case Wednesday.

Mercaldi, like Brown, has been in jail since mid-November in connection to several robberies in Bridgeport, so Shelton police asked she be transported to Superior Court in Derby Thursday to be served with an arrest warrant in the case.

The alleged robbery occurred Oct. 6. Police said that about 10 p.m. that night officers were sent to the gas station, at 99 Bridgeport Ave., on a report of an armed robbery.

The employee at the station told police that a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt, jeans, and a black cloth covering his face entered the store and went to the register.

The man then displayed a gun and demanded money, according to police, and left with an undetermined amount of cash.

The employee was not injured, police said, and no one else was in the store at the time.
