Shelton police continue to investigate two former employees of Pioneer Gas and Appliances Co., who were arrested last week on charges of health insurance fraud.
Police said Michael Plude, 49, an accountant in Monroe, was illegally getting health insurance through Pioneer Gas, even though he wasn’t an employee there. Pioneer’s former bookkeeper Joanne Wilson, 53, was allegedly helping Plude receive the benefits.
The two were each charged with one count of health insurance fraud, and one count of conspiracy to commit insurance fraud, according to police investigator John Petrillo. They were each released on a $5,000 bond and will appear in Derby Superior Court on July 6.
But police said those charges might only scratch the surface of a complaint they have been investigating for the past year.
A Monroe accountant and the bookkeeper of Pioneer Gas were each arrested June 25 for one count of health insurance fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit insurance fraud.
“There are definitely more charges coming,” said Petrillo. “And they are probably not going to be on the (insurance) complaint.”
Pioneer Gas is a family-owned petroleum delivery company on Bridgeport Avenue in Shelton. Representatives from the company declined to comment on the case, but said the company had dismissed Plude and Wilson last July.
