Police: Naugatuck Robbery Suspects Crash In Seymour

Three people have been detained by Naugatuck Police after they allegedly took nearly $30,000 worth of cell phones from a Walmart there early Thursday before crashing their vehicle in Seymour.

Police have not not charged the suspects, according to a prepared statement issued about 1 p.m. Thursday by Naugatuck Police Lt. Bryan Cammarata. The statement did not identify the suspects.

Police were called to the Walmart at 1100 New Haven Road in Naugatuck about 3 a.m. Thursday on a report of a robbery in progress, the statement said.

It was reported that the suspects broke into a cabinet housing electronics items and removed approximately $30,000 worth of cell phones,” Cammarata’s statement said. The subjects were observed and confronted by employees and upon doing so one of the suspects threatened the employees with a screwdriver.”

The employees told police that they retreated after the screwdriver threat, and that the suspects left the store, got into a vehicle, and fled the area.

Arriving officers then obtained a description of the vehicle which was broadcast to neighboring police departments, Cammarata’s statement said.

A short time later the Connecticut State Police advised they had located the vehicle and that it had been involved in a collision on Route 334, Great Hill Road in Seymour,” the statement said. Naugatuck Police responded to the location and the three occupants of the vehicle were identified as the same subjects involved in the incident from the Naugatuck Walmart.”

The three suspects were treated and released at local hospitals for injuries sustained in the crash, and are being detained by Naugatuck police who continue to investigate this incident,” Cammarata’s statement said.

This incident is currently under investigation and the names of the suspects are not yet being released,” the statement ended.
