Police Tuesday were still investigating a crash on Route 34 Saturday that left a Guilford man in critical condition at Bridgeport Hospital.
Seymour Lt. Paul Satkowski said the crash around 6:42 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 5), involved two motorcycles and a car. He said a motorcycle driven by James Dagostino, 25, of Guilford, was driving eastbound on Route 34 – also known as Roosevelt Drive — when he apparently crossed the center line and collided with a car driven by Steve Vlahos, 77, of Brookfield.
Police said Vlahos was driving westbound and that Dagostino may have lost control of his bike on a curve near Argonne Terrace — but that police are still investigating.
He said Dagostino crashed his bike and was thrown. He was not wearing a helmet, Satkowski said. Satkowski said Dagostino sustained severe head and leg injuries.
Dagostino was taken to Bridgeport Hospital where he was listed in critical condition late Tuesday afternoon, according to spokesperson John Cappiello.
Satkowski said a second motorcyclist, Vincent Sharretto, 58, also of Guilford, was behind Dagostino and when he tried to avoid the accident, he also lost control of his bike. He was also taken to Bridgeport Hospital where he was treated and released, Cappiello said.
Police said Vlahos was shaken, but did not require any medical treatment.
No charges have been filed and police said they did not know if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
Satkowski said the area of the accident on Route 34, “has a slight bend in the road.’’
Satkowski said the department’s accident reconstruction officers are assisting with the investigation.
