Police Say Man Sexually Assaulted Woman During Home Invasion

A man and woman were attacked in their sleep during a violent home invasion” on North Street early Saturday, police said Monday.

The woman was sexually assaulted and the man was physically assaulted, police said in a prepared statement.

Both victims received minor injuries during the assaults but refused medical treatment.”

Police learned of the crime at about 5:30 a.m. Saturday.

According to a statement from police, Wilian Guzman entered the North Street residence through a first-floor window and attacked the couple while they slept.

The male suspect then assaulted the male resident and physically assaulted and sexually assaulted the female resident,” police said.

After committing the acts of violence the male suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival,” according to the prepared statement.

Guzman knows one of the victims, police said.

After collecting evidence at the scene and interviewing the victims, police arrested Guzman at a job site in Trumbull. Police did not elaborate.

Guzman is charged with first-degree sexual assault, home invasion, first-degree burglary, second-degree unlawful restraint, third-degree strangulation and two counts of third-degree assault.

He was arraigned in Derby court Monday morning and is being held on a $500,000 bond.
