SEYMOUR — Police said Wednesday that 81-year-old Shelton resident Barbara Tamborra has died as a result of the injuries she suffered after being hit by a vehicle on Route 67 last Friday (Dec. 10).
Barbara Tamborra and her husband, James, were struck as they tried to cross the road after attending a wake at Ward-Miller Funeral Home.
A motorist ignored the signals of a police officer who was trying to help the couple cross the busy road, police said. The impact killed James Tamborra. Barbara Tamborra had been taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury.
The driver momentarily paused before driving away, police said. He or she was thought to be driving an Acura MDX built between 2014 and 2016.
Anyone with information on the driver should call the Seymour Police Tips Line at 203−881−7638.
The Tamborra’s adult children appeared at a press conference Tuesday asking the driver to surrender to police. Click here for a previous story.
State lawmakers have also asked transportation officials to conduct a “safety audit” of Route 67 to see if the road can be safer for pedestrians.
” … while the ultimate responsibility rests with the cowardly driver who struck these people and fled, we’re requesting the DOT undertake a review of this area to identify needed safety improvements to hopefully prevent this type of crash in the future,” state Rep. Klarides-Ditria said.
