Police and the Seymour school district have issued warnings for Seymour students to be on guard after a man made remarks to a middle school student walking home from her bus stop Wednesday.
The incident happened on Bunting Road just before 3 p.m., according to Lt. Paul Satkowski.
A female student was walking, when a silver car slowed down, and a man in his 30s called “Come here” to the girl, according to Superintendent MaryAnne Mascolo, who sent an e‑mail notice to parents about the incident.
“The student backed up, walked away and the car drove off,” Mascolo said. “It may end up being absolutely nothing but one can never be too cautious today. We always err on the side of caution and that is why we are notifying you of this situation.”
Satkowski said the girl did the right think by alerting a family member, who made a complaint with police.
He reminded students to never go near a vehicle or into a vehicle of a stranger. Satkowski said student can use their cell phones to call 911 if they feel threatened.
“Walk with a friend, don’t walk alone,” Satkowski said.
Police are investigating the incident, and ask anyone with information, or anyone who sees something suspicious, to call the department at (203) 881‑7600.
