Police: Shelton Man Fired Gun Unlawfully

Shelton police arrested a Ridgefield Terrace man early Sunday after they said he illegally fired his gun at his property while intoxicated.

About 1:30 a.m. Sunday police received a report of numerous gunshots on Ridgefield Terrace, Lt. Robert Kozlowsky said in a press release.

An investigation led to the home of 58-year-old Zygmunt Mysliwiec, Kozlowsky said. Police spoke to Mysliwiec, who initially told officers he also heard the shots, but wasn’t sure where they were coming from.

Kozlowsky said officers later found several spent ammunition casings on Mysliwiec’s property, along with firearms inside his home.

Police charged Mysliwiec with unlawful discharge of a firearm, carrying a firearm under the influence, interfering with an officer, and second-degree breach of peace, according to Kozlowsky. He posted a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Superior Court in Derby March 19.

Kozlowsky said Monday that police don’t know what prompted the incident, but that it wasn’t related to an altercation or fight.

He said police do not anticipate any more developments in the case.

At this point there’s no other charges that will result,” Kozlowsky said.
