POLICE: Teens Were After Dirt Bike In Ansonia

The five young men arrested in Ansonia Monday after engaging police in a chase were trying to steal a dirt bike from a garage at 77 Prindle Ave., police said.

The five men were all teenagers — one as young as 11 — and police did not release their names.

They were charged with criminal attempt at second-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit second-degree burglary, third-degree larceny and interfering with an officer.

Police were called to the home on Prindle Avenue at about 11:57 a.m., where the homeowner said he saw three men run from his home and across the street into a parking lot, according to a press release issued by Lt. Andrew Cota Tuesday morning.

Police officers saw a white van speeding away from the parking lot and followed it. The van drove down Platt Street, past the police department and turned onto Hodge Avenue. It then turned onto Burke Street — a dead end.

The van stopped and the five teens jumped out and ran away. Officers and one resident on the street chased the teens and caught all five, police said.
