Police To Reconsider ‘No Parking’ On South Street

The Police Department will take a second look at the recent installation of no-parking signs in the residential South Street and Pinecrest Avenue neighborhood, officials said Wednesday.

The signs were put up two weeks ago, apparently as a result of a neighborhood complaint. But, as a result of the signs, cars are now parked in front of other homes in the area, including Pinecrest Avenue.

Why don’t you limit no parking to those neighbors who have an issue with it, don’t go up around the corner,” said Bart Flaherty, a resident of the neighborhood who said he was not complaining, but rather, simply bringing it to the attention of the Board of Police Commissioners.

Flaherty was satisfied with the immediate decision to revisit the no-parking sign placement decision. He emphasized that it is not an issue for him because he has a large driveway, but was speaking for the peace of the neighborhood.

It’s a close neighborhood and there are some hurt feelings now,” said Flaherty, who also serves on the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission.
