Update: All charges filed in this case were dropped.
A guest at a wedding in Seymour Saturday helped himself to more than a piece of cake, according to police.
A 23-year-old Cheshire man allegedly took items from purses during the reception being held at the Inn at Villa Bianca on Roosevelt Drive, according to police reports.
The man was charged with sixth degree larceny.
“It never happened in 27 years,” said Tony Mavuli, owner and operator of the Villa Bianca.
Mavuli said other guests at the wedding reception caught the man and called the police.
“He was cooperative, and waited for the police to arrive,” he said.
Lt. Paul Satkowski, spokesman for the department, didn’t return calls for comment.
The man was arrested Saturday at 9:52 p.m., and was released on a promise to appear in Derby Superior Court May 2.
