Pool Fixed, Oxford Pays

Following an executive session Monday, the Board of Selectmen and the High School Building Committee agreed to make a payment of $88,695.97 to the ACMAT Corp. for building an indoor pool at Oxford High School.

The payment had been delayed for some time after leaks were found in the pool in 2007.

The ACMAT Corp. of New Britain filed a lawsuit in September against the town, claiming Oxford wasn’t living up to its contractual obligations. ACMAT had subcontracted the pool job to Rizzo Pools.

After discovering the leaks, Town Attorney Fran Teodosio said the town brought in O&G Industries, the general contractor for the project, to investigate the problem.

After several tests were conducted, the problem was identified and the appropriate repairs were made.

“As soon as all the studies and work was completed and signed off, the payment was approved,” First Selectwoman Mary Ann Drayton-Rogers said.

The total contract between the building committee and ACMAT was $98,916.99 to build the pool.

The remaining money — about $10,000 — will be used to fix handrails on the pool, as ordered by the town’s Fire Marshal.

That work will take place over the winter break.

Drayton-Rogers said the $88,000 payment will end ACMAT’s lawsuit against the town.
