Power Restored For Majority Of Seymour, Effort Stalls In Beacon Falls, Oxford

The emergency shelter at Seymour Middle School was not used overnight Thursday, as most of Seymour regained electricity earlier.

By 11:30 p.m. Thursday, just six percent of Connecticut Light & Power residents were in the dark in Seymour.

As power came on, residents shared the information on the Valley Indy’s Facebook page — along with their gratitude for the Seymour emergency officials who helped them get through some five days without electricity.

Patricia Rimkunas thanked the volunteers who staffed the shelter at Seymour Middle School.

“My mother got wonderful care from all the fantastic volunteers at the shelter. She suffers from severe Alzheimer’s and she and her caregiver could not have been in a better place. Thank you all so much!,” she wrote.

In Seymour:

  • There is school today (Friday, Nov. 3)
  • The town hasn’t set a date for the rescheduled Trick ‘r Trunk, which was canceled earlier this week.
  • However, Seymour parent Debra Roberts-Elder started to start a Facebook group to organize a trick or treat event for Saturday. The group was 200 strong within an hour of its launch.

Oxford

In Oxford, the percentage of CL&P customers without electricity was at 38 percent as of 11:30 p.m. Thursday. That is 2,004 customers.

CL&P was still promising that 99 percent of Oxford customers would be online by Sunday, 11:59 p.m.

Oxford hovered around 40 percent out since about 6 p.m. Wednesday.

On Thursday afternoon Scott Pelletier, the town’s fire chief and emergency management director, said multiple CL&P crews and trucks were in Oxford making repairs. Circuits being worked on Thursday afternoon included areas along Route 34, Maple Tree Road and Riggs Street.

Unfortunately, those areas did not regain power Thursday.

First Selectwoman Mary Ann Drayton-Rogers said the work will continue Friday and that she expects progress.

Meanwhile, in Oxford:

  • School remains closed Friday (Nov. 4). Classes will resume Monday.
  • A parks and rec sponsored ‘Trick ‘r Trunk’ will not be rescheduled.
  • The location of the 40th Oxford Arts and Crafts Show on Saturday (Nov. 5) has been changed from Oxford Center School to the S. B. Church Memorial Town Hall, also on Route 67. Click here for more info.

Beacon Falls

In Beacon Falls, 26 percent of CL&P customers remained in the dark late Thursday. That is almost 700 customers.

Crews working in Beacon Falls were actually pulled out of the town sometime Thursday, according to a message on the town’s website.

“There were crews working in the areas of Burton Road, Cook Lane, Rice Road, Teresa Road on Thursday morning, but they were withdrawn by CL& P,” according to the message.

CL&P told town officials that “Lorraine, Back Burton, Edwards, the back side of Sawmill, Rice Lane, Rice Lane Extension, Terese would probably not be restored until Saturday.”

“It is hoped to be sooner than that time frame,” the message read.
