Primary Day Is Tuesday, Aug. 9: Here Is A Guide

There are a bunch of statewide primaries happening on Tuesday, Aug. 9.

First, some general information.

Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

If you’re not sure where to vote, click this link from the State of Connecticut to find out.

Knowing what numerical district you live in can be confusing. This website from the state makes it easy to figure out.

Keep in mind these primaries are for registered members of the Democrat and Republican political parties.

U.S. Senator (Republican candidates)

Three candidates are vying for the Republican line to face incumbent Democrat U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal in November.

Secretary of State

CT Secretary of State Denise Merrill resigned in June to take care of her ailing husband. There are two Democrats and two Republicans trying to make it to the November ballot, where voters will choose the next secretary of state. The winner of the primaries will face off in November.

State Treasurer

Current state Treasurer Shawn Wooden, a Democrat, is not seeking re-election.

Three Democrats are in a primary on Tuesday to get on the November ballot. The winner of the primary will face Harry Arora, the candidate nominated by the Republicans.
