DERBY — A city man was sentenced to probation last week for pointing a gun at his ex-girlfriend.
Brendan Canty pleaded guilty in Superior Court on Elizabeth Street to first-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree threatening. Both crimes are misdemeanors.
He received a one-year suspended sentence and three years probation, with conditions, for each count.
A suspended sentence means he could go to jail if he gets in trouble again or violates the terms of his probation, which includes staying away from the victim for 60 years, according to The Connecticut Post.
Canty is a volunteer with Derby Storm Ambulance and Rescue Corps.
According to Derby police, Canty’s ex-girlfriend accused him of making threats and pointing a gun at her during an argument in January. He was arrested in February.
