Probe Into Mystery Water Leak Expands In Ansonia

That weird water leak on Ansonia’s State Street may not be the city’s responsibility after all.

Residents have been asking the Valley Indy about the leak for weeks.

City officials said Thursday (May 28) the public works department would have to excavate the road because the Regional Water Authority had done testing and determined there was no problem on their end.

But a spokeswoman from the RWA e‑mailed the Valley Indy Tuesday saying the leak might be a faulty water main.

FILECrews from the company are scheduled to dig up the corner of North Cliff and State streets beginning Wednesday (June 3) at 9:30 a.m.

Even though we tested the water and found no chlorine and listened for leaks on several prior occasions, it wasn’t until yesterday when a crew went out again that they thought they heard a leak on a 12-inch water main at the intersection of North Cliff and State Streets,” Kate Powell, the RWA spokeswoman, said in an email to the Valley Indy.

The plan is to shut down water service to 10 customers,” Powell went on. If there is a leak, anticipated time of repair is three to four hours.”

Powell also sent the map below showing what area will be affected.

The new info from the utility company dispels the rumor the leak was the work of a C.H.U.D.
