Residents will get a chance to weigh in on a proposal to build 23 homes off Castle Lane in Ansonia.
The Planning and Zoning Commission is hosting a public hearing on the plans at 7 p.m. tonight (Monday, Sept. 19) at City Hall on Main Street.
Developer Mark Romano wants to extend Castle Lane and build 23 new homes on about 15 undeveloped acres there.
Romano has filed a request to subdivide the land, which would allow him to eventually build 23 single family homes there. Click here to read a past article about the proposal.
Romano said he wants the houses on the street to be colonials and raised ranches, with three to four bedrooms each. The homes will sit on half-acre lots.
The bad economy makes things harder, but Romano said he believes the price range, the quality of homes and the proximity to Route 8 will attract buyers.
He estimated that the homes might sell for about $299,000. Romano wants to start building within the next eight months, assuming the approval process goes smoothly.
Some neighbors have already expressed their opposition to the proposal.
“We’re on wells, and they’re going to destroy our wells,” one neighbor, Heather Lee, told the Valley Indy this summer.
“It’s a rural community,” Noreen DeCiucis told the Valley Indy in July.
Republican Alderman John Marini wrote a guest column in July, questioning the need for more homes in a slumping housing market.
Other Aldermen have said they wanted to look into the proposal before voicing an opinion on the plans.
