Purse Stolen In Derby, About Two Weeks After Similar Crime In Ansonia

DERBY — A woman’s purse was stolen in the parking lot of the ShopRite off Pershing Drive.

According to Derby police, the woman was loading groceries into her car Sunday when a vehicle pulled up and a man reached out and grabbed her purse from her shopping cart. 

Police said the woman was not injured.

The suspect was described as a Black male in a black sedan with New York license plates.

The Derby crime happened about two weeks after a similar crime in the parking lot of the Stop & Shop in Ansonia off Division Street. 

The two stores are less than half-a-mile apart.

In the Ansonia incident, officers responded to a report of a purse snatching Dec. 28 just before noon.

In that case, the victim was also putting groceries in her vehicle when a man approached and grabbed her purse. The man stole the purse after a brief struggle.

The suspect left in a 2008 Lexus IS (a sedan) with Massachusetts plates. The vehicle was previously reported stolen out of Orange.
 
The male suspect was described as a Black male in his twenties, five feet, six-inches tall, wearing dark clothing.
