The following information was provided by Timm Willis, the public information officer for the Seymour Fire Department.
Seymour Fire Department: Run Totals for 2017 First Quarter (January, February, March)
Over the first three months of 2017, the Seymour Fire Department responded to 133 calls for service.
These ranged from a fire in a detached garage and workshop to vehicle fires and accidents, as well as assisting Seymour EMS and responding to surrounding towns with structure fires.
Below is a breakdown of some of our activity during the past three months.
Fires: 1 building fire, 3 cooking fires contained to food on the stove, 1 Vehicle fire, 3 brush fires and 1 fire listed as other for a total of 9
Overpressure, overheat (no fire): 1 response
Rescue and emergency medical incidents: A total of 19 responses including 1 vehicle extrication. These responses primarily consisted of motor vehicle accidents.
Hazardous Conditions: The department responded to a total of 27 of these types of calls. These primarily consisted of vehicle collisions with fluids spilling from the cars.
Service Calls: 25 total responses including calls such as water leaks, and lockouts as well as assisting other agencies.
Good Intent Calls: The department responded to 12 good intent calls, primarily made up of smells of smoke or people calling in what they believed to be fires.
False Alarms: 25 calls were reported that included unintentional activations of smoke alarms or problems with fire alarms. As well as an additional 15 calls for service.
