Dave and Kathy Conti — along with daughter Heather and her hubby Bill Chulak — took home a first place win at the annual “Sun BBQ Fest” held June 3 and 4 at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville.
Red Planet BBQ, the name of the foursome’s competitive cooking team, won first place in the dessert category.
Now they’ve qualified to compete in the World Food Championships, scheduled to be held Nov. 8 through Nov. 14 in Orange Beach, Alabama.
Dave and Kathy own Arrow Printers, Inc. at 311 Main St. in Ansonia.
The photo above shows the team receiving the award from celebrity chef Myron Mixon, one of the top “pitmasters” in the U.S.
“This will be our second time returning to the World Good Championships,” Dave said in an email to The Valley Indy. “Red Planet BBQ has been doing BBQ/Food competitions for the past 10 years.”
The first place win at Mohegan Sun was a casino-themed, cookie dough frosted triple-layer cake. It was covered with chocolate chips and chocolate sauce, served with a shot glass of ice cold milk.
