Seymour-based architect Joseph Migani has been having informal” conceptual discussions with Derby planners for a year about redeveloping Plaza on the Green, a small shopping center in the heart of Derby owned by former Mayor Anthony Staffieri.

Migani’s goal was to get an idea of what type of redevelopment plan the commission might like.

The initial discussions were about a 19-story hotel-apartment building, a plan Migani himself later called too ambitious.

In July Migani talked about an eight-story building, and indicated the project could also finance the renovation of Derby’s Sterling opera house and its parking garage.

Migani’s plans would have required zone changes.

The discussions for the past 12 months have been conceptual — no formal plans were submitted.
