Reminder: New Transfer Station Fees

As we went though the entire transfer station process, we had fees posted on the Derby section of the Electronic Valley, as well as at the transfer station trailer and at DPW.

However, there is still some confusion in regard to what people have to pay for at the transfer station. The fees are listed below.

What people do not understand is that these fees are set by the Board of Aldermen, and are fees which go directly to the City of Derby, and only cover the cost of disposing the particular items.

For example, the cost for a tire is what it costs the City of Derby to properly get rid of that tire.

One of the biggest issues in the past was the fact that these fees were rarely collected, so when a tire shop brought in a truckload of tires, it costs the taxpayers money to dispose of those tires. 

This does not happen anymore.

The fees:

(Derby residents may dump MSW and yard waste free of charge, with valid ID)

Bulk Waste: $85 per ton

Construction and demolition debris: $85 per ton

Municipal solid waste: $76 per ton

Yard waste/brush/leaves: $60 per ton

Fridges/air conditioners: $15 each

Propane tanks: $15 each

Electronics/televisions: $10 each

Car tires (on or off rim): $6 each

Batteries: $5 each

Fluorescent bulbs: $0

Mattresses/box springs: $0

White goods: $0

Waste oil: $0

Scale weighing charge: $20

HOURS OF OPERATION

Monday-Friday: 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Saturday: 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Sunday: Closed
