ANSONIA — Derby Town/City Clerk Marc Garofalo sent a flyer to The Valley Indy Monday announcing a public forum scheduled for June 16, 2021.
The forum will be a presentation, along with a question and answer session, on an idea to close the Derby Senior Center in Derby and have the Derby seniors enroll in the Ansonia Senior Center. See the flyer above.
The issue was first reported by The Valley Indy on June 3. Click here to read the story.
Right now the legislative bodies in both cities are working on an agreement that would see Derby pay Ansonia a certain amount of money that will go toward the construction of the Ansonia Senior Center, which is currently being built at 65 Main St. in Ansonia. The building’s primary purpose will be to house the Ansonia Police Department.
Specific dollar amounts haven’t been released to the public yet, though The Valley Indy learned Derby was considering paying $300,000, plus an annual amount from the city budget. Mayor Rich Dziekan said Derby would recoup money paid up front by selling the Derby building that currently houses the Derby Senior Center, and that annual costs from that point would be less than they are now.
The Derby Board of Aldermen/Alderwomen met in a closed session May 13 to talk contract details.
Both legislative bodies would have to approve a contract.
