HARTFORD – State Rep. Nicole Klarides-Ditria today (April 15) applauded the governor and State Bond Commission for approving a grant to reimburse the Town of Beacon Falls for the cost of police-worn body cameras, dashboard cameras, and related digital media storage devices.
As part of a $260,455 state expenditure, seven municipal police departments, including Beacon Falls, will be reimbursed for the purchase and maintenance of these important public safety tools. This latest grant includes $16,630 for Beacon Falls.
“Protecting our citizens and police officers with video recordings provides protection and benefits to the entire community,” Rep. Klarides-Ditria said. “I want to thank the governor and the Bond Commission for understanding how important these tools are, and for recognizing that municipalities need assistance to offset expensive technology. As the wife of a retired police officer, I appreciate the extra layer of transparency and protection a body camera can provide to both the officer and the public. Body cameras increase trust within the community and can reduce improper accusations of police misconduct while at the same time allowing legitimate complaints to be investigated quickly and professionally.”
Once fully implemented, grants under this program will total $2.5 million statewide, including $500,000 that was previously approved.
Other municipalities that received reimbursement under this grant include: the City of Groton, East Granby, Mansfield, New London, South Windsor, and Woodbury.
