ANSONIAA 20-year-old Bridgeport man was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after a crash on Route 8 southbound on Friday (Feb. 7).

It’s believed he was struck while standing outside his stopped car. Another 20-year-old man was hospitalized with minor injuries.

According to a police accident report, state police responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident near exit 15, near the Ansonia-Seymour border, at about 8:51 p.m. Police found that a man driving a Ram 1500 Big Horn had struck a Nissan Altima.

According to the report, the Altima had stopped in the left lane before the crash. The driver of the car was standing outside for an unknown reason, with one passenger still in the front seat. The truck, also traveling in the left lane, then appears to have come up and struck the parked car from behind. Both vehicles came to a rest near the center of the two lanes, the report says.

The man standing outside the car was taken first to Griffin Hospital, then transferred to Yale-New Haven Health for his injuries. The passenger inside was taken to Bridgeport Hospital with minor injuries.

The truck driver didn’t complain of any injuries, the report says.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information should contact Trooper Patrick Miko #1353, at Troop I, at 203 – 3934200 or by email at [email protected].
