Police converged on Main Street Monday morning after a man allegedly assaulted an ex-girlfriend.
Police showed up in force after receiving a report that a gun may have been involved in the incident — but no weapon was recovered.
The incident began around 10 a.m., when a woman getting gas on Main Street was allegedly confronted by her ex-boyfriend, Joseph Moore, 29 of Stratford.
He began arguing with her about some belongings of his that she had not given back, police said.
“The male ended up in the car,” according to police spokesman Lt. Andrew Cota.
The woman drove into downtown Ansonia. At some point Moore allegedly grabbed the woman by the throat.
She stopped the vehicle on Main Street and went into Eddy’s Bake Shop to call police.
She told police Moore had mentioned a gun, prompting a city-wide police response.
Moore was charged with third-degree assault, threatening, criminal mischief (for allegedly breaking a cell phone) and possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.
He was being held on a $5,000 bond pending a Nov. 15 court date.
