DERBY — Retro Grub & Pub at 87 Elizabeth St. will be closing its doors Friday night (July 7), the owners announced on Facebook.
Valley natives Greg and Gary Pettinella opened the bar and restaurant in March 2019. Other partners in the business included Frank R. Hemmock, and his son Frank A. Hemmock, according to a 2019 story about the pub’s grand opening.
“Over the last several years I have built many friendships and life-long relationships that I never would have if it wasn’t for Retro,” according to the uncredited Facebook post on June 28, which thanked family, friends, and customers for supporting the business.

The restaurant made it through the pandemic — an event that decimated the food service industry.
Retro has a busy week planned, even though it is the restaurant’s last week in operation. They’ll have a band playing on the last night. Click here to read Retro’s Facebook page.
Retro is the third bar at the space since 2009. First there was Connie’s, then Bar None.
Retro is in Plaza on the Green, a small commercial center next to the Derby Green previously owned by former Mayor Anthony Staffieri. The property was sold for $1.73 million in 2021 to 101 Elizabeth, LLC. Public records stated the principal of that company is Gregory Geaski.
